A Model for Embodied Cognition in Autonomous Agents
نویسندگان
چکیده
The traditional efforts to mimic basic human behavior in embodied agents use an approach that draws a clear line between the “mind” and the “body” of those agents. However, recent findings in neuroscience show that our bodies have an active role in what we call “intelligence”. We studied several processes related with our body and propose a model to integrate them in generic embodied agents. The model was validated in a small case study with the NAO robot.

Robosemiotics and embodied enactive cognition
Much research in cognitive science and AI has recently been devoted to the study of adaptive autonomous agents, such as robots and artificial life systems. Such agents are typically said to ‘learn, ‘develop’ and ‘evolve’ in close interaction with their environments. It could be argued that these self-organizing properties solve the problem of representation grounding in AI research, and thus al...

متن کاملA Lesson from Robotics: Modeling Infants as Autonomous Agents
Although computational models are playing an increasingly important role in developmental psychology, at least one lesson from robotics is still being learned: Modeling epigenetic processes often requires simulating an embodied, autonomous organism. This article first contrasts prevailing models of infant cognition with an agent-based approach. A series of infant studies by Baillargeon (1986; B...
متن کاملAbusive Interactions with Embodied Agents
Numerous research groups around the world are attempting to build realistic and believable autonomous embodied agents that attempt to have natural interactions with users. Research into these entities has primarily focused on their potential to enhance human-computer interaction. As a result, there is little understanding of the potential for embodied entities to abuse and manipulate users for ...
متن کاملECA: An enactivist cognitive architecture based on sensorimotor modeling
A novel way to model an agent interacting with an environment is introduced, called an Enactive Markov Decision Process (EMDP). An EMDP keeps perception and action embedded within sensorimotor schemes rather than dissociated, in compliance with theories of embodied cognition. Rather than seeking a goal associated with a reward, as in reinforcement learning, an EMDP agent learns to master the se...
